Upcoming Son of Monsterpalooza in Burbank is a great opportunity to take photos

About a year ago and half ago I discovered conventions are the perfect opportunity to get awesome photos.  I'm not a professional photographer so I sometimes struggle to find interesting things or people to photograph.  I am a huge fan of film and the horror genre so this convention is the perfect mix of both.  It features some of the talented actors and artists involved in the creation of the creatures and films that we all love.  As you will see below, it also attracts plenty of talented cosplayers.

Son of Monsterpalooza is an offshoot of the much larger Monsterpalooza which was held in the Pasadena Convention Center last April.  It is being held in The Marriott Burbank Hotel and Convention Center on September 16-18.  If you are a horror/scifi fan or just learning photography, I highly recommend you head out to Burbank.

Below are some of the photos I took at last year's convention.

Concerning cosplay and cosplayers

The first convention I ever attended was the 2015 Star War's Celebration in Anaheim.  I was aware of cosplayers but I had never met one and certainly hadn't taken any pictures of them.  I found they are extremely creative and passionate about the characters they portray.  They also like to have their pictures taken and are very receptive to having photographers take their picture...as long as you ask nicely!  One of the great things about having cosplayers as models is you don't have to direct them on how to pose.  They always come up with the perfect pose for their character.  I recommend new photographers attend a convention if they want to learn how to take good portraits.  There are some great conventions held all over the country so get out there and take some pictures.
